DR MRS VANDERTRAMP
Our dictée test this week will be the 16 verbs from Dr Mrs Vandertramp (an acronym to help us remember them!). These verbs are verbs that are conjugated with ETRE in passé composé. We have a song to help us remember them that the students should know (tune of 10 little indians). They will be given a paper with only the first initial of each verb that they will fill out by memory. Although this is a big test, it is a very important one that will help them with their French writing. Please study hard!

For the next 2 weeks we will be focusing on applying the verbs we have learned so far. Many of the kids are able to memorize the verbs for their test, but cannot apply them in their writing. The goal is for your child to be able to write sentences where the verb is correct. The booklet that is coming home for homework requires them to look at the other parts of the sentence, and figure out how to write the verb correctly. Here are some step by step instructions to guide your child:
1) What verb are you using? (it usually gives you which one)
2) What is the song or the trick for this verb?
3) Which "pronom personelle" do you need to use? (je, tu, il/elle, nous, vous, ils/elles)
4) Did you conjugate it properly?
Your child's test next week will look just like the homework. So they will be given the verb and need to conjugate it.
Example:

ANSWER: Les filles vont à le magasin.

Instead of assigning two tests this week I thought I would combine the Dictée and Social Studies Quiz. The students will be given a map and will need to identify the 6 regions and spell them correctly. They will be given 6 Dictée points for the regions spelled correctly and 6 Social Studies points for them being labelled properly. There is no verb this week. Here is the map that we will be using (below). Homework is to colour and label the map that has been sent home.

Each week your child should complete the chapter they are assigned, as well as study the words and verb that are provided at the beginning of the chapter. They will have a week to complete their homework and do their studying. The test will be the words and the verb. Thursday is their dictée test and their homework is due that same day. A homework contract has come to help you stay organized.
